I'm Yamanbagiri Kunihiro. I'm an Ashikaga Castle masterwork forged by Horikawa Kunihiro at the request of Ashikaga Castle's Lord Nagao Akinaga, and now I serve you. There's little else worth mentioning.

霊剣山姥切の写しと言われ、性格は少しひねくれ気味。
本当は自分を認めてほしいという一面も。
磨けばとてもきれいなのに、自らを汚すことで隠しています。原石というやつですね…！

キャラクター設定文

霊剣『山姥切』を模して造られたとされる打刀。
オリジナルでないことがコンプレックス。
綺麗と言われることが嫌いでわざわざみすぼらしい恰好をしている。

My wish was to become strong, and so I requested to go on training.

There's no issue with that, is there? Everything I do is seen in light of me
being a copy, but I'll change that.

Becoming stronger than anybody will free me of the Yamanbagiri legend.

That was my resolve. Except now... I'm hearing bizarre things from people here.

正直なところ、俺もまだ混乱しているんだ。
俺は、山姥を斬った伝説を持つ刀、山姥切の写しであって、
山姥を斬ったのは俺じゃないと記憶している。
だが、俺が会った人々は、俺が山姥を斬ったから、
そのもとになった長義の刀が山姥切と呼ばれるようになったという。
これでは、話が全く逆だ。
写しの俺が、本科の存在感を食ってしまったようなものだ。
どう、受け止めていいかわからない。

Dear Master,

I must have left you confused with the last letter.

That's because I was, and still am, very confused. What I remember is that it
wasn't me who slew the Yamanba, but I was just a reproduction of that sword.

Yet what I'm hearing now is that the Yamanba's slayer was me, and the Chogi sword I was modeled on then took the name.

That would seem to make our relationship very different. I don't know what
to make of this. Wouldn't that be as if I'm more 'real' than the original, in a way?

俺が山姥を斬ったという伝説、本科が山姥を斬ったという伝説、
そのどちらも存在しているんだ。
案外、どちらも山姥を斬ったりなんかしていないのかもな。ははは。
人間の語る伝説というものは、そのくらい曖昧なものだ。
写しがどうの、山姥斬りの伝説がどうので悩んでいたのが、馬鹿馬鹿しくなった。
俺は堀川国広が打った傑作で、今はあんたに見出されてここにいる。
本当に大事なことなんて、それくらいなんだな。

迷いは晴れた。俺は本丸に帰る。

Dear Master,

Much time has passed now while I've investigated the issue.

Having talked to many people, I learned there are two versions of the tale.
Some say the original slew the Yamanba, others that it was me, the copy.
Wouldn't it be funny if neither of us actually had? Hahaha...

The only certain thing is a lack of certainty doesn't stop people from telling a story.

It feels pretty idiotic now to have been taking the Yamanba stuff so
seriously. There's an unshakable part of my identity, which is that I'm a
masterwork by Horikawa Kunihiro, and a chosen sword of the Saniwa.

It's been an important journey for me, and now it's over.

俺こそが長義が打った本歌、山姥切。どこかの偽物くんとは、似ている似ていない以前の問題だよ
Yamanbagiri Chougi. I am a Touken forged by Chougi, a swordsmith of Bizen Osafune. I am Yamanbagiri, the original Touken created by Chougi's hand. And that forgery of mine doesn't look anything like me.

写しであると言われている山姥切国広と共に伯仲の出来。美しいが高慢。
