雹混じりの雨が降る。ここは桶狭間。歴史の転機の一つだ。
だが――先を急ぐ刀剣男士の前方に、何故か雨が降っていない空間がある。
ぽかりと丸く開いた時空の歪み。その穴から、ずるりと異形の存在が這い出した。We're at Okehazama, the site of a historical turning point. Rain falls mixed with hail, as the Touken Danshi hurry forward. ...And then before them, an area unaffected by the weather. A distorted section of spacetime neatly opens up, and something unearthly spills out.
4-4『京都・西陣（椿寺）』
刀剣男士と時間遡行軍の戦い。それは歴史のために、過去の悲しみを突きつけられる行為でもある。
歴史は歴史。それで起こる結果がどうであるうとも。そう、納得はしている。だが。
……そこに一抹の迷いがあったのだろうか。背後から忍び寄る影の接近を許してしまったのは。In fighting the History Retrograde Army to protect history, the Touken Danshi must also defend its cruel realities. This is something they've accepted; that history, with all its blemishes, is history. Yet it seems there may be some other doubts on their minds. They have let their guards down and allowed the shadows to approach.
【武家の記憶】Era 5 Memory of Samurai
室町、鎌倉の時代は武家支配の時代である。
義経死後の阿津賀志山の戦いで奥州征伐が終わり、鎌倉幕府が始まる。
鎌倉支配は承久の乱で貴族を破ることではっきりしたが、
元寇で弱体化、元弘の乱で鎌倉時代は終わって室町時代へ移った。
The Kamakura shogunate came in to power at the Battle of Atsukashiyama. Despite successfully consolidating power in the Jokyu War, the shogunate was weakened by Mongol invasions and eventually overthrown in the Genko war.
5-1『鎌倉・元弘の乱』
――銃声が響く。鉄砲伝来前のこの時代で、銃を使えるのは時を越えてきたものだけだ。
だが、音を頼りに刀剣男士たちが辿り着いた時には、すでに銃声は止んでいた。
視界に飛び込んできたのは倒された時間遡行軍。……そして刀剣男士を次の標的と定めた異形の軍勢だった。Gunfire? This timeline has not yet seen the advent of gunpowder, leaving interlopers as the only possible cause. The Touken Danshi arrive at the source to discover battered HRA soldiers. ... And now, they find themselves as the next target of their strange new adversary.
5-2『博多湾・元寇』
――風が、止んだ。あまりにも異質な、完全に凪いだ空気。
凍てついた戦場の中心、時空の歪みから出現するのは異形の軍勢。それは遡行軍でも、もちろん刀剣男士でもない。
そして、その物言わぬ双眸が、静かに刀剣男士たちを捉えた。Where has the wind gone? For the wind to vanish so suddenly suggests something amiss. Then, out of a spacetime rift at the heart of the icy battlefield, appears an otherworldly army. "They" are not our heroes, nor are they the History Retrograde Army. Implacably and silently, they fix their eyes on the Touken Danshi.
5-3『墨俣・承久の乱』
この戦場に赴いたのは、いったい何度目だっただろうか？ もはや数えることもやめてしまった。
だが時間遡行軍は次々と出現し、戦いは終わらない。これが敵との物量差ということか。
だがその時。戦いを強制的に終わらせようと言うのか、もうひとつの軍勢が姿を見せた。So many times—so many I've lost count—we've come to this same battlefield and fought the same swarms of HRA. Their numbers are overwhelming. This time, though, they aren't the only enemy to face. Another force arrives and attempts to intervene in our battle by eliminating both sides.
5-4『厚樫山・阿津賀志山の戦い』
次から次へと出現する時間遡行軍。だが鍛えに鍛え上げた刀剣男士たちには、それも時間稼ぎにしかならない。
そんなとき、眼前の敵が、一刀のもとに切り伏せられた。その背後から出現したのは、今までとは違う軍勢。
そして、彼らの殺意に満ちた眼光が示すのは、彼らが決してこちらの味方ではないということだ。Even with their huge numbers, the History Retrograde Army cannot match the skills and training of the Touken Danshi. Soldier after soldier is dispatched with trifling effort. And then, a HRA soldier right before them is sliced asunder in a flash. The blade was swung by a new entrant to the battlefield; another force has appeared, and they are out for our blood as well.
【池田屋の記憶】Era 6 Memory of Ikedaya
幕末の京都は陰謀と謀議のうずまく街である。
時代が変わる前触れとして騒がしくも華々しいこの古都で、日本を揺るがす大事件が起きようとしている。
池田屋の裏は長州藩の藩邸であり、新撰組は裏庭を抑える形で襲撃を行ったが、歴史修正主義者は池田屋に近接する三条大橋とその通りに兵力を伏せて襲撃を阻止しようとしていた。

As the Tokugawa shogunate fell from power, Kyoto drowned in intrigue and conspiracy.
Amongst this political strife ,a single event threatened to overturn Japanese society.
6-1『京都・市中』
刀剣男士のいくさは、彼らの記憶にある場に赴くことも多い。池田屋も、その一つ。
時に未練を想起させられ、それでも歴史を歪めることは許されない。それが刀剣男士の使命であるが故に。
では、検非違使はどうなのか？ ……問うまでもない。彼らは無感情に歴史を守るだけの番人なのだから。The Touken Danshi's fight takes them to various Locations to which they're personally connected—Ikedaya is one of these. Regrets are inevitable, yet a Touken Danshi's duty compels him to accept history as it is. Justicars have no such emotions, as they coldly eliminate all anachronisms in their path.
6-2『京都・三条大橋』
刀剣男士と検非違使。陣営は違えど同じ歴史の守り人。手を取り合うことはできないのか？
無理な話だ。少なくとも、今は。──何故なら、検非違使は、歴史のためなら自ら人間を殺す。
史実から外れ、生き残ってしまった人間を機械的に殺していた彼らは、今新たな標的を発見したようだ。The Touken Danshi and the Justicars, both groups of time-traveling "hunters", are confirmed enemies. Could this change? For now, it's impossible. The reason: the Justicars proactively kill humans in their quest to conserve history. They have been unquestioningly eliminating survivors who contradict historical fact. And now they have come across a new target.
6-3『京都・池田屋二階』
夜を征く。池田屋襲撃を成功させるために、遡行軍を斬る。その横を、新選組が駆けてゆく
斬られる定めにある者とのすれ違った。大きないくさではないが故に、斬る者、斬られる者との距離が近い。
だが心乱している暇はない。善悪の区別なく歴史の異物を狩る者は、もうそこまで迫っているThe night beckons for action. For the Ikedaya raid to be successful, the History Retrograde Army must be felled. With the Touken Danshi fighting just meters away, the Shinsengumi descend upon the inn. Among them is one man known to have suffered a fatal injury here. However, emotions cannot be considered with the hunters of historical aberrations close at hand; those both good and evil will fall to their blades.
6-4『京都・池田屋一階』
――歴史を守るために、襲撃を成功させる。その結果として、人が死ぬ。
未来のために、眼前の人命が失われるのを見捨てる。歴史を守るというのはそういう事だ。
だが心せよ。それを当然と思ってはならない。その胸の痛みが、眼前の狩人との最大の差であるのだから。Ensuring the success of Ikedaya raid is part of protecting history. This also means sealing the fate of those that died here. To protect history and the future, it's essential that some of those we cross paths with, die. Essential, but lest we forget, heartbreaking. That's what separates us from these hunters before us: they have no such emotions.

【延享の記憶】Era 7 Memory of Enkyou
延享4年 熊本藩主細川宗孝が旗本に突然背後から斬りつけられ絶命する事件が起きた。
若いゆえにまだ世継ぎがおらず、細川家は断絶の危機に陥ったが、
この窮地を救ったのは、たまたまそこに居合わせた仙台藩主伊達宗村だった。
Four years into the Enkyo era, Hosokawa Munetaka, the head of Kumamoto Clan, was slashed from behind by a shogun vassal And killed. The young chief had no successor, leaving his clan on the verge of collapse.
Their unlikely savior was the head of Sendai Clan, Date Munemura. He was at the scene by chance and averted disaster with a spontaneous intervention.
7-1『江戸・新橋』
何度も時間を戻って戦い続けた報いを受ける時が来たようだ。検非違使がゆらりと時空の狭間から出現をはじめた。
The consequence of the Touken Danshi's incessant travel across time has finally reached them. A spatial rift has formed as legions of Justicars begin to pour out from its cracks.
7-2『江戸・白金台』
検非違使はどこか、自分たちに似ている。 錯覚だと思いながら、武器を握りなおした。検非違使が襲い掛かってくる。
Something about the Justicars seems to resemble us. An illusion? Either way, I take firm hold of my blade as they come at us.
7-3『江戸・江戸城下』
こちらも暇だが検非違使もさるもの。律義に現れてはその都度戦うことになる。やつらに倦むということはないのか。それとも……
The Justicars insistently show up every time and fight us. They seem to have plenty of time on their hands, but well, so do we. Do they not tire of this, I wonder. Or could it be...
7-4『江戸・江戸城内』
罪は許されるべきだと検非違使たちが叫んでいる。意味が分からない。誰が罪で、誰が悪のつもりなのか。まあいい。敵は殺すまで。
The Justicars scream out that sins should be forgiven. Just what could they mean, and who are the sinners anyway? To hell with it, we have to kill them either way.
【青野原の記憶】Era 8 Memory of Aonohara
慶長五年は一つの時代の区切りであった。
この年、西軍と東軍に分かれて戦国の終わりを告げる戦いが起きたのである。
古戦場の名を引いて青野原の戦いとも書かれた戦いは、
歴史の重要な分岐点であり、時間遡行軍の重点攻撃目標となっていた。
The fifth year of the Keicho era was a great turning point in history,
in which the battle of Sekigahara closed the page on the Sengoku period.
A stage such as this could hardly be ignored by the History Retrograde Army,
who will seek to sway this long-past conflict between eastern and western Japan.
8-1『京都・阿弥陀ヶ峰』
この時代は最初から不安定なのか検非違使が既にわき始めている。
意思を失い、ただ破壊するだけの検非違使を前に、こやつらの過去を考えてもみた。As if they instinctively know this era violates whatever codes they abide by, the Justicars continues to advance through the rift. Though they are no more than indiscriminate assailants, one can't help but to contemplate on their past.
8-2『信濃・上田城』
似た動きで迫り来るもの。それは何故なのか、良く分からない。考えることが罪なのかもしれない。
One of them attacks with a stroke I know all too well. What's behind this, I have no idea. Would it be a sin to try and figure it out?
8-3『美濃・青野原』
検非違使は時間遡行軍とこちらの違いも分からぬようで、同じ戦術でただ力押しで押し寄せてくる。
強いは強いがどうにも知性を感じられない。
あるいは検非違使を派遣している審神者は検非違使から知性を奪っているのか。The Justicars make no distinction between your forces and the History Retrograde Army, seeking only to eliminate all in their path. They’re strong, but lack any kind of finesse or strategy. It’s possible that the Saniwa who dispatch the Justicars interferes with their ability to properly reason.
