Dear Master,
This is a tale of an object, and is being told by that very same object. It is the tale of the thousand years that the object existed. The days and months of the thousand years all follow from this one night.
What a splendid thing a journey is. One can forget the fighting for a while, and let one's heart be tranquil. But of course, the purpose of this journey is to train. The objective is to gain strength with which to overcome our enemy. I haven't grown so senile that I would forget that. You can rest easy there.
Now then, I suppose I will continue tomorrow.

Dear Master,
Our training involves retracing the path of history, visiting the legends, and following what lies within people's hearts. These are the things which we are made up of. Accordingly, it is often the case that we visit out former masters.
In my case, there are records of the houses at which I was kept, but the records of who used me are less clear. Yes, yes, I know you'll be thinking I've simply forgotten on account of my advanced years... Well, so be it.
If one were to say that history is a great stream of human desire, then objects would be like little boats traveling down it. Forged by man and burdened with hopes, passing through many hands, and then burdened with further hopes—we are used, and without exception we break, and yet we often survive longer than humans. A sense of beauty... Who was it that hoped for that?
Now then, I suppose I will continue tomorrow.

My deterioration resulting from age has been remedied and I have gained a thousand years' worth of experience too. That sounded like a blunt way to put it. 三条宗近殿は思い詰めるばかり。

矢も盾もたまらず、私は飛び出してしまったのです。Hello Master,
Sanjou Munechika's still weighing on the offer to take over the imperial
command as legend foretold, so I decided to offer some prayers at the
shrine in hopes of making someone appear to help in aiding him."Maybe an incarnation of Inari will decide to manifest here," I thought.
...But in the end, I didn't see a single living soul. And Munechika still wasn't
any closer to finding an answer.I couldn't stand by and watch anymore—I had to take matters into my own
hands!

For a minute, I thought I was going get roped into doing the smithing work
for myself!After I spoke to Munechika and he expressed all his worries, a mysterious
figure in a fox mask stepped out of the shrine.They never spoke a word, but they seemed to be saying "Good work. Now
leave the rest to me." was it Inari Myojin...? I could only speculate.For all I know, it could have just been a wandering swordsmith with a taste
for the dramatic. Or maybe it was me, traveling back in time from an even
more distant future!Even with that mystery left unsolved, my heart feels lighter now.

keeping this country's peace. Still...I wonder if he thought that as a copy of Shogun Tamura's "Sohaya-no-Tsurugi", I

狐に化かされたみたいな顔をしやがった。

堪忍堪忍、急がず行けよ。一緒に歩いてくれてありがとうって。「ソハヤノツルキウツスナリ」。本当の俺は斬れるだけの平凡な刀なのかもしれない。
それでも狸爺は最期に俺に言ったんだ。この国の鎮護となれと。
その言葉が、願いが霊力となって、俺を霊刀に押し上げた。
ということは、今の俺の霊力を高めるのは、今の主の願い以外にはないということだ。
思い出に浸るのは終わりだな。主、俺に願ってくれ。これまでも、これからも。Dear Master,

When I reached the top, the tanuki jumped off and had the gall to lecture me.

"Sohaya-no-Tsurugi utsusu nari". Maybe I really am just an ordinary sword, only

...My nature is that of a tool of war—that is inescapable.
And so, there is not so much I may do that there is need for doubt.

Even those who violate our teachings may become Buddha at the end of time.
