Attended the #BLMKansai Peace March today (well now yesterday since it's past 4am). It was amazing, cathartic, powerful. I've posted some videos to my IG (@/miss_suju) if anyone wants to check them out, but I'll make a post later once I can coherently express my thoughts.✊🏽✊🏿✊🏾🇯🇵

Japan is not a secluded island nation. Black Lives Matter is global. Black people are in Japan making waves. Japan has housed me since I was 18 years old. My Black friends have lived there for over a decade. For us, by us. 2,000 people. I’m still lowkey crying pic.twitter.com/rzSl1PmFjq

「なんで大阪でアメリカの人種差別に反対?」とだれでも思う。 だけど、呼びかけたのは大阪に住んでいるアフリカ系アメリカ人の人たち。日本の人たちはその人たちを守るために集まった。それは美しい姿だった。 #blmkansaimarch

1/ I will be honest, I was a bit scared to go to #blmkansaimarch. Though, I went anyways. Although no sign in hand, I decided to muster up some courage to attend the walk. As we marched, my courage grew within each step. My participation is minuscule to what other brave

2/ individuals are doing everyday. I've lived in fear because of my skin. That's something I cannot control. I was born this way. But as I walked peacefully, on that sunny Sunday in Osaka, something blossomed within me. I've allowed others to dictate me, and my emotions. I

3/ allowed them the power to instill fear within me. But not anymore. I'm done being afraid. My people are constantly dying and living in fear. During the final chant, I lifted my fist up high and finally shouted. #BlackLivesMatter

4/ To those who organized this event: you've provided people the chance to shout in unison on a tiny island thousands of miles away from home. Some Americans cannot march with their families at home, but was given a chance to march today. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Our friend, the Ry-cist came to watch. No sign of a German Shepherd, though. 残念。Just a Trump hat and a Confederate flag shirt. He taunted from afar, but he was ignored. The police + organizers kept everyone in 4 single file lines with barriers so no one outside could get in. pic.twitter.com/Flu4pp29Mr

This march was overall more quiet. Our presence spoke for us. We only chanted when the organizers prompted them. No profanities (lots of children were present) + everyone wore white for peace. 🕊️ Chants included: "BLACK LIVES MATTER" "I CAN'T BREATHE" "NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE" pic.twitter.com/I6RYXU66P3

@sincerelynyny_ @blmkansai Glad you like it, Nyasha! This march was so uplifting and healing. Everyone was incredibly kind. I also kept seeing people give masks, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, and other things to eachother. It was the epitome of solidarity and unity. More marches should be like this one.
